Outpatient Psychiatric Treatment to Support Your Path to Stabilization and Recovery

Ocean View Psychiatric Health Facility provides outpatient psychiatric treatment for individuals who do not require inpatient care but still need structured, therapeutic support. Our outpatient services help patients develop the skills, insight, and confidence needed to manage their symptoms and move forward in recovery.

How Our Program Differs

We know you’re unique, so we offer acute mental health care tailored to you. With Ocean View, you’ll experience stabilization-focused care that provides structure and support without stigma. With your input, we build partnerships with medical and behavioral health services so you can transition from us to your daily life. We do this by providing comprehensive mental health services accessible to everyone.
  • On-site Team of Psychiatrists: Our on-site psychiatrists provide medication stabilization, monitoring, and management. Your well-being is vital throughout your stay in our inpatient mental health crisis facility and our outpatient services.
  • Case Management & Aftercare Support: Case management begins when you’re admitted to either our inpatient or outpatient program. Our case managers and social workers ensure you have a safe place to go, whether that’s housing or a facility, once you leave us.
  • Transportation Coordination Provided: We offer transportation services coordinated with a trusted provider that takes you to and from inpatient intake and discharge destinations, as well as to/from our on-site outpatient programs. Transportation is provided to patients within a 50-mile radius.
  • Stabilization for Managing Psychiatric Symptoms: Ocean View provides 24/7 inpatient psychiatric care. We also have outpatient treatment programs.
  • Patient Resource Network: Transitioning from inpatient or outpatient treatment can be overwhelming. That’s why we have an opt-in patient follow-up option. You don’t have to manage your symptoms alone.

When Outpatient Options are the Right Fit For You

Outpatient options are the right fit when symptoms are manageable, you have a safe home environment, and you can attend regular therapy while maintaining daily responsibilities. They also work well as a step-down from higher levels of care or for those who need structure and support without full-time hospitalization.

Discover Our Integrated Outpatient Psychiatric Programs

Ocean View’s outpatient levels of care consider the severity of your symptoms. Once your symptoms are evaluated, you will be admitted to either our partial hospitalization program (PHP) or intensive outpatient program (IOP). Both levels of care provide a safe, structured care that supports your symptom management.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Our PHP program is an intensive and structured method of treatment, an alternative to hospitalization. The program offers:
  • Four group sessions a day that meet five days a week. These sessions include a psychoeducational group led by a social worker and a therapeutic recreation support session led by a recreation therapist.
  • Case management
  • Snacks and lunch

Intensive Outpatient Program

While our IOP is structured outpatient care, we focus on providing the same secure, enjoyable, and compassionate care found in our inpatient and PHP levels of care. However, we also include:
  • Focused Coping Skills
  • Community Reintegration

Structure of Our PHP & IOP

Psychoeducation Group Sessions

Our integrated psychiatric services provide four groups each day. We offer strengths-based, participant-centered treatment based on information from the goal-setting group.

Groups are tailored to benefit the unique needs and objectives of our participants with an emphasis on promoting hope and fostering the realization of your best possible future. Our psychoeducation groups address:
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Interpersonal challenges
  • Co-occurring disorders
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Self-harming behaviors
  • Diversity issues
  • Trauma
All groups and individual therapy are provided by licensed/registered clinicians who operate from a recovery and wellness perspective. Clinicians are trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness-based treatment approaches, and other therapies.

Continued Medication Management Support

After your acute psychosis symptoms and medication are stabilized, you will transition to a lower level of care, and you will receive medication management services. Both our PHP and IOP provide continued medication management under the care of our psychiatric team.

Duration of Our Integrated Psychiatric Programs

The length of your stay will vary based on what is medically necessary for you in your stage of recovery. If you are actively suicidal, homicidal, or unable to keep yourself safe in the evening, it may necessitate a change in the level of care provided.

We will work on an appropriate transition/ discharge plan with you throughout your treatment.

Aftercare & Opt-In Patient Follow-Up

Aftercare supports your symptom management. You will work with a case manager to determine what you need to maintain the clinical improvement you achieved at Ocean View. Your case manager will partner with you to coordinate:
  • Case manager support
  • Outpatient transitions
  • Housing or facility placements
  • Community support referrals
Our Opt-In Patient Follow-Up (Patient Resource Network) continues to provide support and encouragement after you transition back into your life.

Onsite Medical Director

Our medical director plays an active role in stabilizing symptoms and adjusting medications to support lasting change. They conduct psychiatric evaluations, oversee the medication stabilization process, and collaborate closely with the treatment team to make timely, individualized adjustments based on symptom feedback and patient progress.

Patients meet with the medical director or psychiatric team regularly, ensuring that care plans remain responsive and effective. This high level of involvement helps promote medication compliance, reduce symptom flare-ups, and support long-term stability after discharge.

FAQs

What Is Expected of Me When I Come to PHP?

Timeliness and the ability to engage with respect and dignity towards yourself and others are important for successful treatment. It is also important to be present for the goal-setting session so that you can benefit the most from this program. Daily attendance in all groups is encouraged unless ill. Absences can affect your insurance coverage and the outcome of treatment.

I Have a Lot Going on in My Life: Can I Come Only a Few Days a Week Because of Work, School, etc.?

Due to the requirements of insurance companies and the intensity of this kind of program, we strongly encourage you to come daily and for the full program for the first two weeks. After the first two weeks, we can arrange for a variety of schedules to accommodate your needs.

What if I Don’t Have Transportation?

A benefit of PHP is that we do offer transportation within reasonable limits. If you do not live within the transportation department’s catchment area, we will coordinate with you and our transportation department to find transportation for you.

Can My Doctor See Me While Admitted?

Each patient will be assigned an admitting Psychiatrist and an Internist who will coordinate and lead the patient’s treatment while at Ocean View. It is the philosophy of Ocean View to have your admitting Doctor collaborate with and share information with your community Doctor/Caregiver, if warranted and with your written permission. If you and your Doctor want your Doctor to serve as the admitting Psychiatrist and attend to you while you are at Ocean View, provisional privileges may be arranged.

What Can I Wear While I’m at Ocean View?

You may wear your own clothing during the treatment program. We do ask, however, that you dress modestly. If you have a question about a particular item of clothing, you may ask a staff member. When attending the inpatient program, we ask that you not bring things such as clothing with drawstrings, belts, and shoelaces.

We would love to help.
