Understanding Mental Health
Mental health is one of the most crucial areas that make up a person’s overall well-being and their ability to function happily in life. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), mental health is a “state of well-being that enables us to cope with the stresses of life.” Unfortunately, for millions of Americans, poor mental health is a harsh reality that makes life difficult and often unbearable. It’s estimated that one in five U.S. adults will live with a mental health disorder in their lifetime.
What Is Mental Health? A Foundation for Well-Being
Even though the reality of mental health may seem bleak, there is more hope for healing today than ever before. Ongoing research has shown the need to approach mental health in a comprehensive and holistic way. At Ocean View Psychiatric Hospital, we approach mental health as the foundational pillar that supports every area of your life, including how you cope with stress, make choices, and feel about yourself. Deepening your relationship with this pillar is one of the most important things you can do to find true joy and meaning in life.
The Importance of Mental Health Care: Seeking Support and Finding Solutions
No one’s mental health is picture-perfect. Most people will work on their mental health in some way, shape, or form for most of their lives. For the millions of Americans struggling with mental health disorders, finding the right support and solutions is absolutely vital, especially when each and every person comes to the table with their own unique set of circumstances and needs. This is why Ocean View puts such a strong emphasis on comprehensive and individualized care.
No two mental health disorders are the same, just as no two human beings are the same. Finding the right care that suits you best can be the difference between a life of lasting happiness and a constant uphill battle when it comes to your mental health.
Common Mental Health Disorders: Understanding the Signs and Symptoms
Even though millions of adults are diagnosed with mental health disorders every year, there are millions more who may not even know they have a condition. Understanding the signs and symptoms is a crucial first step towards your journey of healing and long-term recovery.
Common mental health disorders include bipolar disorder, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. Each condition varies greatly from one to the next, but some common signs and symptoms to look out for may include feelings of sadness, isolation, suicidal thoughts, inconsistent sleep patterns, poor eating habits, and difficulty concentrating. Many people who experience a mental health disorder can often find it hard to cope with life’s usual stressors or function in day-to-day activities, work, or family life.

Ocean View’s Approach to Mental Health Treatment
In an age where millions of people struggle with mental health conditions every single day, it’s more important than ever to have access to quality and compassionate psychiatric care. At Ocean View Psychiatric Hospital, our mission is to deliver the highest quality treatment in a safe and private setting. Here, we empower our patients to discover the confidence they need to heal and find lasting success in recovery.
Compassionate Care: A Family-Owned Approach to Healing and Recovery
Unlike most psychiatric treatment centers, Ocean View is a family-owned facility that offers a unique approach to healing. Since 2010, we have been dedicated to treating adults in need of inpatient psychiatric services in a safe, warm, and welcoming environment designed to put your mind at ease while you receive the high-level care you deserve.
Many of our patients come to us after feeling unsuccessful at other treatment centers, where rigid structures can make healing feel more like a chore than a journey. Here at Ocean View, our goal is to provide a safe space that makes you feel welcome and comfortable as you learn to manage and overcome the struggles that have made you feel lost and alone in the world.
Personalized Treatment Plans: Tailored to Your Unique Needs
Psychiatric illnesses can vary greatly from one person to the next, so the last thing you need is to feel like just another name on an intake form. Each and every patient that comes through our doors at Ocean View will be treated on a completely individualized basis, creating a plan that is tailored to your unique needs and goals. We believe mental health treatment is most effective when we empower our patients to rediscover their own sense of self-confidence and autonomy. At Ocean View, you will find a safe space and supportive environment to help you achieve your goals so you can create a solid foundation for lasting recovery.
We accept Medicare, Medi-Cal, and a wide range of other insurances. Our out-of-network insurance benefits can also put your mind at ease, knowing you’re able to receive the compassionate care you need when you need it most.
Mental Health Treatment Programs at Ocean View
Ocean View Psychiatric Center is a 39-bed psychiatric health facility that is licensed by the California Department of Health and Human Services and accredited by the Joint Commission. Our primary goal is to deliver the most effective, high-quality inpatient care for adults with acute psychiatric needs. Even though most of our patients will stay with us on an inpatient basis, we also provide outpatient programs. These programs help those in need of more structure and stability in their day-to-day life.
Inpatient/Residential Care: Intensive Support for Acute Mental Health Needs
Here at Ocean View, we provide intensive support for adults with acute mental health needs in a voluntary and private setting in the greater Long Beach area. Our individualized, multi-disciplinary team approach is focused on best practices and evidence-based treatment that will help set your mind at ease while you focus on your healing. Most of our patients stay in our inpatient program for seven to ten days on average. Some patients may stay longer, and this can vary depending on your specific needs.
Inpatient and residential care at Ocean View consists of daily psychiatric visits as well as group psychoeducation therapies. Here, you’ll find support in a community of like-minded adults without fear of being judged or treated like a statistic. We also provide catered meals and snacks, fresh air breaks throughout the day, recreation, and clinical or peer support when you need it most.
Our family-owned psychiatric facility puts a strong emphasis on privacy in treatment. This is why private rooms are an essential part of the Ocean View experience. We believe that privacy promotes a safe space and a healing atmosphere for our patients while they embark on their journey of recovery. These private spaces can help alleviate a lot of the stress and anxiety you may feel entering a new environment. Privacy can make it easier for you to get a good night’s sleep and give you room to breathe.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP): A Bridge to Outpatient Care
Since mental illness affects everyone differently, it’s important to have a variety of treatment options that will support your healing journey every step of the way. Here at Ocean View, we offer a partial hospitalization program (PHP) as a bridge between inpatient and outpatient care.
Our PHP includes the same amenities and experiences as our inpatient program. They also help you create stability as you begin integrating back into daily life. PHP is often used as a stepping stone between inpatient and outpatient treatment. It can also be used as an inpatient alternative for stable patients with outside family and work responsibilities.
Think of this program as a structured treatment plan that addresses your psychiatric needs while helping you maintain your daily life outside of treatment. Patients in our PHP commute to Ocean View, where they receive daily support through psychiatric care, group therapy, and more.
Therapeutic Approaches and Modalities
Ocean View Psychiatric Hospital includes a wide variety of traditional psychiatric and behavioral treatment modalities. We also offer holistic and recreational approaches. Altogether, our comprehensive program is here to support your personal development and lasting recovery success.
Medication Management: Psychiatric Evaluation and Medication Support
Millions of people in need of depression treatment or other psychiatric care will need medication to be managed properly. Here at Ocean View, each patient will first have a full psychiatric evaluation to see if medication will be supportive for their journey. If you’re already on medication, our staff is trained to help you seamlessly transition into our care. We will ensure your comfort and safety every step of the way.
Behavioral Therapies: Addressing Unhealthy Behaviors and Developing Positive Habits
Addressing unhealthy behaviors and underlying issues is crucial to your recovery. At Ocean View, our behavioral therapies will help you learn how to develop more positive habits so you can reach your recovery goals.
Holistic Approaches: Yoga, Meditation, Music Therapy, and Stress Management Techniques
Here at Ocean View, we believe that comprehensive psychiatric treatment includes a therapeutic blend of traditional treatments along with holistic approaches. You’ll find fun, innovative, and relaxing modalities like yoga, meditation, and more to help you reduce stress and lead a calm, fulfilling life.
Personal Development: Building Self-Esteem and Fostering Growth
The journey of recovery is deeply intertwined with ongoing personal development. Living with a debilitating psychiatric condition can cause you to lose your sense of self-confidence and self-worth. At Ocean View, we place a strong emphasis on personal development tools and practices that will help you rebuild self-esteem and foster personal growth.
The Importance of Aftercare and Community Support
Mental health recovery doesn’t just end with treatment. The most important part of your journey happens after you receive treatment, so you can integrate all the things you’ve learned into your daily life and create the structure you need to continue recovery without relapse. At Ocean View Psychiatric Hospital, we are committed to providing you with the highest quality aftercare and community support so you can be set up for lasting success, even after your stay with us is complete.
Continuing Care: Maintaining Momentum and Preventing Relapse
Mental illness is considered a chronic condition that can be prone to relapse if a person stops following their treatment plan. At Ocean View, we are deeply committed to setting our patients up with supportive continuing care to keep the momentum going and prevent relapse before it occurs. We ensure that each patient is provided the proper tools, resources, and outpatient care when needed. This ensures a smooth transition from treatment back into daily life so you can create a solid foundation for lifelong success.
Connecting With Community Resources: Peer Support and Ongoing Assistance
At Ocean View, we believe that healing is most effective when you have community and peer support to help you through. Even after your treatment is over, we will provide you with community resources and ongoing assistance. This will support your healing and reintegration back into daily life. Here at Ocean View, you will never have to journey through mental health recovery on your own.
Building a Strong Support System: Essential for Long-Term Recovery
Studies continue to show that strong support systems are essential for long-term recovery success. Here at Ocean View, we make sure to provide our guests with a smooth transition back into daily life. This includes fostering relationships with family, peers, and community groups.
