Why Mental Health Care Is Essential

Good mental health is vital; it helps you build healthy relationships, cope with stress, and live a fulfilling life. Mental health is key because it impacts your thought processes and your psychological, emotional, and behavioral well-being.

Signs You Need Psychiatric Care for Your Mental Health Disorder

Mood swings and feelings of anxiety, depression, or irrational anger are warning signs that you may need psychiatric treatment for your mental health disorder. Other warning signs include:

Step 2:

Step 3:
Schedule Admission

Once your insurance is approved, we will determine if you require acute psychiatric care and schedule your admission.

Our Levels of Care to Support Your Mental Health Symptoms

The severity of your symptoms determines the level of care you receive. For example, if you’re deemed as a threat to yourself or others, you will be admitted to Ocean View’s inpatient psychiatric care unit. On the other hand, if your symptoms can be managed at a less intense level and you don’t need medication stabilization, you will be admitted into either our partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient treatment programs.

Inpatient Psychiatric Care

For individuals struggling with an acute crisis, our inpatient acute psychiatric facility offers a safe, supportive environment with 24/7 support. Most patients stay with us for 7 to 10 days, receiving daily psychiatric oversight and engaging in evidence-based approaches to care. Other features of our inpatient unit include:
  • Licensed Psychiatric Care
  • 24/7 Nursing and Monitoring
  • 6 Daily Group Sessions
  • Psychoeducational Groups – These groups focus on understanding acute psychosis and its symptoms.
  • Therapeutic Recreation – Therapeutic recreation support includes skills that help you find inner peace (art, painting, music, and animals/pets).
  • Coping Skills Development – Coping skills are essential for managing symptoms and quieting negative thoughts and feelings.
  • Patients are placed in groups based on the severity of their symptoms

Medication Stabilization

Medication stabilization is a key part of our inpatient crisis treatment. We will help monitor medications and prescribe them based on your medical history, needs, and potential side effects. If you are experiencing agitation or other symptoms, appropriate medications may be used to help manage these issues safely. Continuous monitoring allows our healthcare team to make adjustments as needed to ensure optimal care and safety throughout treatment.

Outpatient Levels of Care

Ocean View’s outpatient levels of care follow an inpatient stay or when symptoms aren’t severe enough to warrant hospitalization. Once your symptoms are evaluated, you will be admitted to either our partial hospitalization program (PHP) or intensive outpatient program (IOP). Both levels of care provide a safe, structured care that supports your symptom management.

Partial Hospitalization Program

After inpatient care – or as an alternative for those whose symptoms aren’t severe enough for inpatient care but still require structure – our PHP provides intensive support during the day while allowing patients to return home in the evening. Key features of Ocean View’s PHP include:
  • Four group sessions a day, meeting five days a week. These sessions include a psychoeducational group led by a social worker and a therapeutic recreation support session led by a recreation therapist.
  • Case management
  • Snacks and lunch

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Ocean View’s IOP program is designed to help individuals reintegrate into daily life while maintaining support. With a flexible schedule, IOP allows you to work, attend school, or manage home responsibilities while continuing treatment in a safe, empathetic space. Our IOP treatment includes:
  • Focused Coping Skills
  • Community Reintegration
