Our Levels of Care Help Manage Psychiatric Symptoms

Mind and body health includes mental health treatment. When mental health disorders such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) disrupt your well-being, Ocean View Psychiatric Health Facility can help you address symptoms.

Through mental health services such as inpatient, partial hospitalization, or intensive outpatient programs, our team of professionally trained doctors, psychiatrists, mental health providers, recreational therapists, and social workers uses a holistic approach to provide personalized care, medication stabilization, and community reintegration strategies to support long-term recovery.

Our on-site psychiatrists, case management, and transportation services ensure a seamless experience. We help people 18+ manage symptoms and transition smoothly back into daily life and their next level of care.

Inpatient Psychiatric Care

Our inpatient psychiatric services offer short-term treatment and wellness support, including medication management and individualized therapy sessions such as psychoeducational groups and recreational activities, designed to meet the needs of people facing acute psychiatric episodes or ongoing emotional strain. Acute psychiatric care aims to stabilize serious symptoms that interfere with everyday life. Early interventions are essential when you are experiencing any of the following:
  • Insomnia, racing thoughts, impulse actions, or rapid/pressured speech
  • Episodes of unusually elevated or euphoric energy
  • Reckless behavior or making decisions that endanger safety or well‑being
  • Inability to secure basic needs (shelter, food, safety) due to mental impairment
  • Persistent feelings of helplessness or hopelessness
  • Thoughts of suicide or harming others
  • Signs of psychosis (hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking)
  • Self-harming behaviors

Individualized Care

Individual therapy is a partnership between you and your therapist. It’s an effective treatment for emotional, behavioral, and mental health issues. You can learn coping and life skills to handle challenging situations, reach goals, and make positive, healthy decisions. Therapy will also build your self-confidence, motivate you, and give you a sense of purpose.
  • Licensed Psychiatric Care
  • 24/7 Nursing and Monitoring
  • 6 Daily Group Sessions
  • Psychoeducational Groups – These groups focus on understanding acute psychosis and its symptoms.
  • Therapeutic Recreation – therapeutic recreation support includes skills that help you find inner peace (art, painting, music, and animals/pets).
  • Coping Skills Development – Coping skills are essential for managing symptoms and quieting negative thoughts and feelings.
  • Patients are placed in groups based on the severity of their symptoms

Medication Stabilization

If a patient is experiencing agitation or other symptoms, appropriate medications may be used to help manage these issues safely. Continuous medication monitoring is a key part of our inpatient crisis stabilization, where medications are carefully reviewed and prescribed based on each individual’s medical history, needs, and potential side effects. Throughout your stay in our inpatient or other levels of care, we rigorously keep track of your response to your medication.

Our Outpatient Levels of Care

Ocean View Psychiatric Health Facility includes multiple levels of care, tailored to the needs of adults who require acute psychiatric care and symptom management.

Partial Hospitalization Program

You will transition to our PHP once you complete our inpatient program. A PHP is an intensive, structured treatment program lasting four to eight hours. You will have several hours of group therapy and individualized therapy throughout the day. You will also participate in holistic therapy and life skills sessions. The role of a PHP is to
  • Four group sessions daily, meeting five days a week. These psychoeducational group sessions are led by a social worker, and a therapeutic recreation support session is led by a recreation therapist.
  • Case management
  • Snacks and lunch

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

The flexibility of our IOP allows those near Laguna Beach and Orange County to attend the program and easily commute from home and work. While our IOP is a structured level of care, we provide the same secure, enjoyable, and compassionate care found in our inpatient and PHP levels of care. Our program also includes:
  • Focused Coping Skills
  • Community Reintegration

Ongoing Medication Management Support

When you come to us, we will review your comprehensive health history. This includes going over your current medications. Ocean View has doctors trained to meet your healthcare needs. They will work with the doctor and psychiatrist who prescribed medications for any health issue you may have. Once they discuss the best course of care with your therapist or your doctor at Ocean View, they will prescribe the medicine required for your mental health.

Our knowledgeable medical staff monitors your response to medication to ensure you receive the correct dose. If the medication isn’t working or the dosage isn’t at a level that works for you, we will adjust it.

Ongoing monitoring and adjustments are essential to maintain medication effectiveness and safety. As symptoms improve, medication management continues within both PHP and IOP to continue to protect safety and support your recovery.
